This artistic style defines the heart and soul of Swedish folk art. First appearing in the late 1700s in and around the Län of Dalarna. These early kurbits painters lived in small cottages of hand hewn timbers and loved to decorate their humble dwellings with the kurbits flowers and figures. Soon they ventured out with their supplies to share this lovely style of folk art with other parts of Sweden. This simple whimsical design warms the heart and evokes the feeling of the warm fragrant midsummer midnight sun air and the musical strains of the "spelemän" playing their violins beckoning the arrival of midsummer's day.
